The brightness of passion fills her eyes as she smiles at our cameras, giving perfect clicks every time. Is it for her flawless contours or the virtue of her genuineness, it is hard to tell. Following her journey from Meera to Captain Ambalika, Wedding Affair (WA) brings you the story of the gracious Diana Penty (DP).
WA: Do you think it is difficult to navigate one’s way in the entertainment industry being an outsider?
DP: It would be a lie to say that it is easy, especially if you don’t belong to a film family. I have had my share of ups and downs. Having said that, there are enough opportunities for everyone and the film industry, on the whole, is very welcoming of people from all kinds of backgrounds. It’s about working hard and being able to prove yourself. Some people have it easier than others but perseverance is the key. Along the way, I have also been very lucky to have worked with some wonderful people who I can now call my friends. All in all, I’d say that I don’t feel like an outsider anymore.
WA: Your debut ‘Cocktail’ was an out and-out success, tell us more about your experience with the film.
DP: Cocktail was a dream launch. It was the best first film I could’ve asked for - helmed by one of my most favourite directors – Homi Adajania, whose sensibility I really admire; produced by Dinesh Vijan, who made sure that I was thoroughly prepped for my first onscreen performance. The film starred two of the best actors in the industry, Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone – I couldn’t have asked for a better team of people to help me through my first film. It is because of their collective support and encouragement that I was able to pull off the character of Meera who is remembered even today. I can safely say that ‘Cocktail’ is the best thing to have happened to me professionally and I will always cherish every bit of it!
WA: Which has been your favourite role, the one that will stay close to your heart?
