Aerospace engineering constituting more than a third of Cyient’s total revenue is indicative of the tremendous scope of growth. How has the demand in India and overseas been?

Engineering outsourcing predominantly is based upon the program launches- be it airframe, engine, or systems. With newer programs, we see a significant spike in the direct Engineering, Research & Design (ER&D) business which then tapers out and gives way to product improvement, maintenance engineering or obsolescence during production and aftermarket phases. So technically, there is always, some ER&D work happening throughout the product phase.

Of the global aerospace revenues, around 4% is utilized on a multitude of R&D activities. What started as the business of cost arbitrage and flexible capacity a decade back, has now converged into “technology proliferation,” “program partnerships,” and “innovative business models” resulting in improved cost realizations for the OEMs.

So as long as the budgeted ER&D tracks flat or upwards, on a global outlook, we can safely assume engineering demand to be active.

In Aerospace and Defence vertical, what are some of your strengths and which are the areas where you see the maximum potential for growth and innovation?

Aerospace product engineering is our stronghold for many years now. We lead Integrated Product Teams (IPT), undertake System level ownership, and provide discipline level support on various systems/ sub-systems for our customers that cut across aero engines, airframe, interiors, avionic and aero systems domain.

We are proud to maintain our leadership position in global ER&D ratings since 2011 and our multitude of awards for engineering excellence from OEMs stand the testimony of the design excellence we have bred.

Future Cultural Challenges for Airlines And Airports

Introduction Assuming we are all alike is one of the greatest mistakes we human beings are making all the time. Another mistake we constantly make is to assume that our way of doing things is the only right way. So when people do things differently e.g. how people queue up or what we ascribe status to we try to educate them to do or see it our way. This is usually not well received and a conflict starts.
