Agri Technology Is Changing The Agriculture In India

According to a report by India Brand Equity Foundation (IBEF), the total agri exports from India grew at a compound annual growth rate of 16.45 percent between FY2010-18 to reach $38.21 billion. The sector further saw a whopping increase in exports from April 2018 to Feb 2019 to reach $34.31 billion.

Digitalisation has also helped in the evolution of agriculture. With the incursion of social media, people are aware of the benefits of healthy eating and its practices. With such trends agriculture has to take a step forward. An amalgamation of age-old and modern techniques of farming like residue-free farming, green-house, mulching paper, drip irrigation system, fertigation, Integrated Fertilizers Management (IFM), Integrated Pest Management (IPM), residue-free production, packaging material, rainwater harvesting, high density plantation, contour farming, wasteland utilisation, farm management software’s, farm waste management etc. have boosted the growth of the agriculture sector.

India is a land of entrepreneurs for the last many years; it has helped in the enhancement of the Indian market and also the economy. With the start up culture coming in agriculture, we are witnessing a digital revolution in the sector. A whole set of technologies are being introduced on the ground level to the farmers for better quality and quantity of the yield. These technologies can easily be adopted by the farmers and incorporated with their existing methods. The rise in health-awareness of the people has created scope for many agri-tech start-ups. Many fertilizers and pesticides used for better production are resulting in harmful effects on the environment and human health. The awareness has helped in the growth of farming methods like residue-free farming, hydroponics, and so on. This article describes a few agri technologies that are changing the shape of agriculture in India.
