Support To Budding Agri-tech Startups

Support To Budding Agri-tech Startups

India is expected to be an agriculture society for much of the 21st century. With more than 60% of the workforce employed in the agriculture sector, India is the second largest producer of agricultural commodities. Yet, the sector contributes only 18% to the country’s GDP, leaving farmers’ position miserable still.

The major pain points of the agri-industry are large yield gaps, uncontrollable weather, corrupt middle men, inadequate and inefficient infrastructure, and lack of post harvest management technologies. Perishable produce losses range from 30-40 percent and semi-perishable produce losses range from 10-20 percent. The Indian government has come up with various measures to cope with these challenges, but the constantly changing nature of government policies just adds to the growing risks faced by stakeholders in this industry.
