Having a bridal salon shut down without warning must be every bride-to-be's worst nightmare. Steve Thio, Contributing Editor for Her World Brides and Female Brides, tells you how to spot the warning signs of a salon in danger of going bust.
With so many bridal salons in Singapore offering wedding packages at competitive prices, it's not surprising that some can't sustain the costs of running the business and close down without warning.
To avoid the heartache of no longer having a dress to wear – and scrambling for vendors to handle everything else from scratch – just days from your wedding, here are some signs that your salon may be going out of business.
1. THE SALON KEEPS POSTPONING APPOINTMENTS
If this happens more than once (say, twice or more), it could be trying to avoid certain customers or business acquaintances because of money issues, is unable to complete your dress and other services on time, or is just terribly disorganised.
WHAT TO DO Don’t wait till round three. Head to the salon after the second postponement and clear any issues at hand. If all you get are more excuses, then take back your deposit and start shopping for a more reliable and reputable vendor.
2. THE SALON'S NOT TAKING YOUR CALLS
This is probably one of the most obvious signs that something is wrong. For a business that is all about making customers happy, no salon should be avoiding your calls or text messages – unless you've been incessantly texting and making unnecessary calls. Even if it is unable to take your call, it should at least send a text message saying that someone will get back to you as soon as possible. When dealing with business, one should always be professional and polite. I don’t think any bride would feel secure if she has to deal with unresponsive or unpleasant vendors.
