Discussing Future Of Indian Manufacturing

IN ORDER TO THROW LIGHT ON THE CURRENT market conditions and technological disruptions, VDMA India organised two events. Mechanical Engineering Summit, the annual event of the organisation, discussed opportunities and challenges that the manufacturing industry is currently facing. The discussion underlined local as well global trends and issues. Alternatively, International Symposium— ‘Additive Manufacturing–The Game Changer of Manufacturing’ was held in Pune to discuss emerging trend of 3D printing.

MECHANICAL ENGINEERING SUMMIT

VDMA Mechanical Engineering Summit commenced with a welcome address by Rajesh Nath, Managing Director, VDMA India. He spoke about the year 2019 which was eventful in many ways. He ran audience through domestic global and events such as era of Modi 2.0, slump in the Indian automotive sector, escalated trade war between the US and China, BREXIT, etc. The welcome address was followed by a special address by the Guest of Honour Vinay Kumar Katyal, Director, Bangalore Complex, Bharat Electronics (BEL). In his speech, Katyal informed that BEL crossed turnover of Rs. 11,000 cr. in 2018. The fundamental reason behind this achievement is transition from being a manufacturing organisation to a technological solution provider.

Margit Hellwig-Böette, Consul General, Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany, Bangalore gave a special address on Innovation, Digital Workplace & Start-ups. Next, Ulrich Ackermann, Managing Director of Foreign trade division, VDMA Frankfurt presented on challenges of global trade. He said that the world is experiencing increased conflicts, major economic powers are seizing influence, financial sanctions are being used as a weapon and Internet is breaking into pieces. Therefore, the international flow of money, information, products and services may slow down.
