The IIMs will be the first lot of ‘Institutions of National Importance’ in which the President will not have any immediate and active function. In the IITs and NITs, the President of India is a Visitor. Also, he places directors and chairpersons as per the advice given by the HRD ministry. IIMs, on the other hand, can as per the rulings of the bill, get their own set of directors and chairpersons.
