How hard can it be to pick a foundation shade?
Picking a foundation colour to match your skin tone shouldn’t be that hard, right? Strangely, it isn’t easy, especially if you want to get it just right. Too light, and you look like you forgot to return to the netherworld after the end of Seventh Month. Too tan, and you look like you’ve sat in the sun too long. We got a new foundation, and when our mother saw us, she exclaimed, “Ee-yur! You look like a ghost! You went out like that the whole day?” Yikes. Was it really that obvious that our foundation was a tad lighter than our neck skin colour?
The next day, we grilled a make-up artist friend. “Face the sun,” she said. “Honestly, it’s the wrong shade. But indoors, it looks fine. It’s okay lah, when I was in Korea, every girl I saw had their face slightly lighter than their neck.” Hmm. We decided that it was time to do some research and shed some light (or dark, depending on your shade) on the five things you’re probably doing wrong when choosing your foundation.
