8 DAYS: First things first, what’s up with the long hair? You’re barely recognisable…
SUNNY PANG: It’s for an Indonesia action movie I’m working on.
Let’s talk about the two movies you’re in that are premiering at the Singapore International Film Festival — Headshot, a gritty Indonesian action film, and Siew Lup, a homegrown erotic thriller. How did you get involved with Headshot? You’re a gangster feuding with an amnesiac stranger, played by Indonesian action star Iko Uwais.
It started back in 2013 when the director, Timo Tjahjanto, wanted me in this movie that Gareth Evans [the director of The Raid: Redemption] would produce. But that production was cancelled at the eleventh hour. Everybody was upset. Timo later came to the place I was staying at in Jakarta and told me he was going to cast me in his next project. That was how Headshot came about. I got to play the antagonist and fight Iko Uwais. Timo was worried that I may have problem fighting him onscreen.
Did you have trouble keeping up with him? The fights are really brutal.
