It’s a good time to be a Kapoor. Better still if your first name is Arjun. Surely, the success of Ki & Ka has killed all reservations about his career. But there isn’t an iota of pride in the young actor. Instead, he’s preparing hard for Half Girlfriend to work its magic. His calm demeanour and uncanny common sense are beyond his 30 years. Not only does he stay grounded, he gives some fantastic advice too. Ask his cousin and upcoming debutant Harshvardhan Kapoor. He owes his unique pragmatism to the early knocks in life. Chivalrous and charming, Arjun Kapoor is here to stay in our hearts, in the headlines and in the movies...
Ki & Ka is a hit. What if it had gone wrong?
(Laughs) Then you wouldn’t be doing this interview with me. If Kabir’s character had gone wrong, I’d have been done in. It would have been difficult to bounce back after two failures in a row. Then I’d have only had Half Girlfriend to rely on. But I always had a strange confidence about Kabir. I was sure it would connect with people. See, 50 per cent of the audience comprise women, 10 per cent out of that work. But 40 per cent are homemakers. I guess men didn’t like the film too much. But homemakers loved it.
Why did you keep the fact that you were also a producer on Ki & Ka under wraps?
(Laughs) That’s not important or relevant. You can run the question. But I won’t be able to give you a direct answer. As an actor I do what I believe is right for a particular film. I was convinced about the film and I worked with that mindset.
