Actor, dancer, designer, entrepreneur... Pernia Qureshi believes in hard selling her talent, writes Kinnari Rathod

My clothes line is a direct reflection of me. I was influenced by Vyjayanthimala’s costumes in Amrapali. But how do you wear those royal clothes in everyday situations? So I thought why not make modern adaptations of them? You see, I have a commercial taste. I understand what Indian, Pakistani and South Asian girls like,” says designer Pernia Qureshi about her eponymous label PerniaQureshi.

Pernia studied Pre-Law and English Literature in the US. She spent her vacations learning dance or interning with coveted fashion magazines in New York. Her articles started getting published and her sensibilities were lauded. The editor of an international fashion magazine even told her, “Designing and fashion is what you should be doing. It comes naturally to you.”
