Katie McGlynn has been a regular face on Coronation Street since 2013 as Sinead Tinker, but this year has arguably been her most challenging yet, as she's been given her first major storyline. Sinead – who is pregnant a second time after terminating her first pregnancy – has been diagnosed with cervical cancer.

She is faced with the difficult decision of aborting her child to have chemotherapy, or wait until the baby has developed enough to have the treatment. But this could put her own life in danger.

Here, Katie, 25, tells us why she’s felt honoured to have got this storyline – but why she’d still love to follow in the footsteps of former Corrie stars Michelle Keegan and Suranne Jones...

Hi, Katie! What did you think when you were told Sinead was going to have cervical cancer?

I was well happy! But in real life I obviously wouldn’t be. I was over the moon because I thought, ‘Finally, I’ve got something decent to do!’ I couldn’t wait to get started.

Filming such emotional scenes must be fairly intense for you to do?
