Chrissy Metz once dreamt of the day she’d have a steady acting job and a home that was all hers. And thanks to her role in the hit US drama This Is Us, she now has both – as well as a hoard of loyal fans and Emmy and Golden Globe nominations under her belt.

But while it might look like the actress, 37, is enjoying something of a Cinderella story, her fairytale ending has actually been hard won.

In an exclusive interview with NW, the actress’s stepfather and stepsister reveal the traumas of Chrissy’s childhood – which was plagued by poverty, family drama and persistent weight struggles.

“I moved them all out of their mobile home and into my house,” says Chrissy’s stepfather Crayton Hodge, 70, who married Chrissy’s mum Denise Hodge following her split from Chrissy’s dad Mark Metz.
