Kate and William have three children and appear more loved-up than ever after their first decade of marriage. Like them, one of our two brides is still enjoying wedded bliss, while for the other things just didn’t end happily ever after…
‘I didn’t want to share my day with the future King of England’
Angela Ashby, 38, a first aid trainer, is married to Rob, 42, an IT technician. They live in Birmingham with their daughter Faye, eight, and son Luke, four.
It wasn’t love at first sight when Rob appeared at work as the IT guy in 2007. He’d noticed me and thought I looked nice. I remember him trying to chat me up in the canteen, thinking, “Here we go,” and rolling my eyes. But he was funny and kind, and we became mates.
Six months later, he asked me on a date, but first I had to confess something important – I’ve suffered with OCD for years, which at the time I found embarrassing. I said to him, “I like you, but if you can’t handle my issues please walk away now.”
Holding both my hands, he looked me in the eye and replied, “I’m not going anywhere – unless it’s with you.”
I knew he was a keeper. So when he proposed in August 2010, on a moonlit beach walk in Wales with one foot sodden by the waves, I immediately said yes.
Within three weeks, I’d planned it all. I’d found my dress, chosen the reception venue and booked the church. We picked 29 April because Friday weddings were cheaper, and the vicar said the church would be decorated with Easter flowers so we’d save money.
