Running her hands through her closely cropped hair, Cara Delevingne admits: ‘To be honest, I wouldn’t have done this without having to do it for a film.’The star shaved off her famous model locks to play a woman with terminal cancer in the upcoming romantic tear-jerker Life in a Year, which comes out next year. ‘I’ve learnt something about hair,’ she muses. ‘It’s definitely something you can use to hide behind. Without it I feel a lot more open and a little more vulnerable, which is quite liberating.’

But Cara has never really been afraid to wear her heart on her sleeve. Her split from musician St Vincent (real name Annie Clark) played out in the most heartbreaking and public way – just weeks after Cara had revealed she was ‘completely in love’. She’s also been linked to singers Jake

Bugg and Harry Styles in the past, as well as actress Michelle Rodriguez – but it’s her burgeoning acting career that’s currently grabbing all the headlines.

As one of the most famous models of her generation, Cara says she’s had to ‘work very hard’ to prove she’s capable of more. But there’s every sign it’s all paying off. Critics have praised her leading performance in sci-flick Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, with respected industry mag Variety even writing she ‘saves’ the film, which also stars her best friend Rihanna. ‘[Cara and Rihanna] have something in common – they don’t fear,’ reveals director Luc Besson. ‘They don’t care. They just give. It’s just what you want. You want to have someone open up.’
