AS MILLIONS STAND IN SOLIDARITY WITH THE BLACK COMMUNITY CELEBRITIES SHARE THEIR OWN EXPERIENCES OF RACISM AND INJUSTICE
BLACKLIVESMATTER: ‘THIS IS SOMETHING YOU CAN'T BE QUIET ABOUT'

As the Black Lives Matter movement goes from strength to strength across the world, following the brutal Minneapolis murder of George Floyd, numerous celebrities are continuing to share their own experiences of racism in the UK.

Little Mix star Leigh-Anne Pinnock, says she “doesn’t care” if she loses racist fans by talking about black rights. A video of her speaking of her personal experience of racism went viral. In the clip she says she felt “lonely” while touring in predominantly white countries, adding, “My reality is constantly feeling like I have to work 10 times harder and longer to make my case in the group, because my talent alone isn’t enough.”

Leigh-Anne, 28, later told This Morning, “This is something you can’t ignore, this is something you can’t be quiet about. Some people that have posted [similar videos] have lost a lot of fans. I think it’s disgusting – but it just proves what we’re saying.

Leigh-Anne’s bandmate Jade Thirlwall, 27, has also opened up about her own “horrific” experience of racism. The singer, whose maternal grandmother is from Egypt and maternal grandfather from Yemen, said, “When I was at school if I was ever bullied for the colour of my skin I’d get so confused, I’d be like, ‘Well I’m not from Pakistan.’ I remember one time I got pinned down in the toilets and they put a bindi spot on my forehead, it was horrific.”
