POP ICON BEVERLEY CRAVEN ON WINNING HER BATTLE AGAINST BREAST CANCER, STAYING POSITIVE AND HOW SHE’S GIVING SOMETHING BACK TO MEDICS BY AUCTIONING OFF HER DRESSES

‘I'M THANKFUL TO THE NHS FOR SAVING MY LIFE'
Best known for her classic 1990 ballad Promise Me, singer Beverley Craven is still a player in the music industry and tells us she has been writing lyrics during the recent lockdowns, getting ready for a new solo album.

And the 57-year-old has also been beavering away on her latest charity project, Who Gives A Frock, with the aim of raising lots of cash for the Intensive Care Society.

The health service is important to Beverley after helping her beat breast cancer twice – and now she wants to help its overstretched doctors and nurses in their time of need.

Here, the star – who is mum to Mollie, 26, Brenna, 23, and Connie, 22 – reveals her secret for staying upbeat, what her daughters mean to her and why she goes unrecognised at the shops...

Are you still making music?

I am! I’m working with my old producer, Paul SamwellSmith, who produced Carly Simon and Cat Stevens. It’s lovely to be back in contact. He’ll send me some sounds and I’ll come up with some melody and lyrics, and I’ll come up with a piece of music and he’ll produce. We’re doing a solo album of mine and I’m also planning to do another Woman To Woman tour in 2022.

Is music something you turn to when you’re feeling down?

I don’t often feel down and if I do it’s quite fleeting. Sitting down at the piano and immersing myself takes me somewhere else.
