After the Royal Wedding there was no time for an immediate honeymoon for the newlywed Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Prince Harry was back to royal duties just three days after the ceremony, and the couple got together at a Buckingham Palace garden party to celebrate  the 70th birthday of Prince Harry’s father, Prince Charles…

Back To Royal Business

Much speculation had centred on where Prince Harry and his bride Meghan would spend their honeymoon, but shortly after the big day Kensington Palace confirmed the newlyweds would be postponing their honeymoon because they had scheduled royal engagements.

The first of these was also their first engagement as a married couple, to join Prince Charles and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall at the Prince of Wales’ 70th Birthday Patronage Celebration in the Gardens of Buckingham Palace on May 22. The Queen hosted the party to celebrate her son’s 70th year with more than 6,000 people in attendance, all linked to charities that Prince Charles supports in celebration of his patronage work.

Perhaps not surprisingly, the glamorous couple stole the show at the event. The American actress looked regal in a cream hat and matching outfit at her first event as a Royal - but made sure to keep her new husband close throughout the afternoon.

The new Duchess of Sussex, wearing a dress by Goat and hat by Philip Treacy, appeared in high spirits as she smiled and chatted with guests at the Buckingham Palace garden party.

But the couple made sure to keep Prince Charles at the forefront of the event, celebrating his birthday despite the real date actually falling in November. Prince Harry gave a speech at the birthday party for his dad, paying tribute to Prince Charles for his “selfless drive to affect change”.

Speaking to the crowd of thousands, he said: “In my mind this event sums up your approach to work. I know you really didn’t want today to be about you and would far rather the focus be on the people and organisations represented here.

I know that in your mind, you see the opportunity of bringing everybody together as a chance to thank them for all of their amazing work.
