IN the days leading up to Donald Trump and his wife Melania’s June 3 visit to Buckingham Palace, members of the royal family were busily preparing to welcome their special guests. While Prince Harry and Queen Elizabeth II were gearing up for a private luncheon with the president and first lady, Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, were putting the finishing touches on plans for afternoon tea at Clarence House. Prince William and DuchessKate, meanwhile, were getting set to attend a lavish state dinner at the palace. But there was one person notably absent from the schedule of events: DuchessMeghan. “While everyone was rolling out the red carpet for the Trumps, Meghan opted to stay home,” says a source.
The presidential snub has rubbed many the wrong way — especially the first lady, who was already reeling from another slight: Meghan’s refusal of a baby gift from the first lady and the president to her and Harry’s 1-month-old son, Prince Archie. According to a source, Meghan, 37, an outspoken Trump critic, is ready to go head-to-head with 49-year-old Melania — and Mrs. Trump isn’t afraid to fight fire with fire. “Meghan’s met her match with feisty Melania,” says the insider. “No one would be surprised if she confronted Meghan at the palace. She wouldn’t put up with any outrageous antics.”
