The day after Valentine’s Day in 2018, Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux announced they were splitting after seven years together and two years of marriage. “We are two best friends who have decided to part ways as a couple but look forward to continuing our cherished friendship,” they said in a joint statement. In the years since the pair have kept their word.

In a new interview with Esquire magazine, Theroux doubled down on the sentiment. “Like it or not, we didn’t have that dramatic split, and we love each other,” the actor, writer and director said. “I’m sincere when I say that I cherish our friendship … It would be a loss if we weren’t in contact, for me personally. And I’d like to think the same for her.”
