SPOTLIGHT ON CHROMOTHERAPY

From vibrant reds to serene blues, colour can have a big impact on our emotions and perceptions. But could the properties of colour itself have a healing effect?

That's the principle behind chromotherapy, an increasingly popular treatment. The theory is that wavelengths of different colours can be used for a range of benefits, including everything from anti-ageing, to relaxation, to weight loss and pain relief.

"Essentially each colour of the light spectrum has its own wavelength, and each of these wavelengths are used to promote different properties to the body and mind," explains Madeline Calfas, founder of thewellnessgroup.net.au. "It's the exact same principle as using lasers to remove hair, pigmentation and redness or blood vessels - the wavelength used will determine the effect."

WHERE IS IT USED?

An increasingly popular way to use chromotherapy is in infrared and full spectrum saunas. While these can often be found at wellness spas, they're also starting to appear in a number of gyms.
