Sophie & Kate Saving the Crown!

With the Queen taking it easy amid her two weeks’ worth of doctor-ordered rest following a recent health scare, never has there been more focus on the future for the crown. And with Elizabeth II knowing she is due to be succeeded by an unpopular heir, the Queen, 95, is pulling out all the stops to ensure Prince Charles, 72, is surrounded and supported by those who will ensure his success as the future king of England.

“For all that has been said about Prince Charles being the one leading the way to shape the monarchy and to streamline it to ensure its survival, it will be up to these two, Sophie Rhys-Jones and Kate Middleton, about how they support the way forward,” a senior royal source told British newspaper The Sun.

Kate has proven to be one of the royal family’s best assets since she tied the knot with Prince William, both 39, in 2011. After taking a while to find her feet, the Duchess of Cambridge has recently been applauded for her work in mental health and her focus on the early childhood years.

Similarly, Sophie, 56, has become one of the most “trusted” and “hardworking” members of the Queen’s inner circle since she wed her youngest son Prince Edward, 57, in 1999. “[Sophie] is like another daughter to Her Majesty – they are that close,” a senior courtier told British newspaper The Express.

With the Queen expected to hand over several of her scheduled engagements and official patronages to family members in the coming days as age forces her to slow down, the majority are expected to be handed over to Kate, Sophie and their husbands.
