But there is something that can be done about it. Nissan, for its part, takes the green path by reusing old car batteries to power streetlights.

The car manufacturer, together with giant trading company Sumitomo, set up 4R Energy Corporation. This joint-venture company intends to set up a new plant in the disaster-hit town of Namie, Japan, powered by pooled old batteries of the Nissan Leaf—a 2011 model electric vehicle (EV) believed to be on the tailend of its vehicular lifespan.
