Paul Morton from Birds of Poole Harbour is looking forward to hearing and seeing the first summer migrants on our shores, as well as the opening of their new HQ
SPRING is here. Finally! It’s been a long cold winter and we’re all ready for change. Snowdrops have been visible since mid January, hazel catkins have swung gently in February breezes, but what will March hold in store for us and our feathered friends?
Spring brings change and opportunity; a new lease of life and the birds certainly let us know that. Song thrush and early returning chiffchaff sing contently on warm March mornings; woodlark melodically court each other out on heathlands, and our first summer migrants such as wheatear, sand martin and osprey return for what will hopefully be a successful breeding season both here in Dorset and much further north. There are also exciting new happenings for Birds of Poole Harbour this month.
We began as a charity back in 2013 with three simple goals: to promote and educate people on bird conservation; preservation of the birds and their habitat; and observation of birds in and around the Poole Harbour area.
