As an interior and still life photographer, Sarah Hogan has shot for a multitude of established interior brands and collaborates with British and international publications including House & Garden, ELLE Decoration and Livingetc.
It was in this line of work that she met interiors editor Emilio Pimentel-Reid, with whom she has co-produced new book, Bold British Design, which takes readers inside the homes and work spaces of some of the UK’s most exciting interior design talent.
“I first met Emilio about 15 years ago and we’ve worked together on magazine shoots numerous times,” Sarah says. “We met to catch up over a coffee and the book idea just flourished from there. We wanted to gain access to the people who inform us and what we buy but who the general public wouldn’t ncessarily know about.”
The book features the studios and relaxed family homes of artists including furniture designers Sebastian Cox and Bethan Gray, ceramicist Hitomi Hosono, interior designer Lucy Hammond Giles, names-to-watch Yinka Ilori and Hal Messel and antiques dealer Guy Tobin. It reveals the history, craftsmanship, key elements and inspiration that went into creating these very personal and stylish spaces.
“A lot of interiors books feature homes overseas that feel somewhat unobtainable but we wanted it to be about British deisgn and for it to be very real,” Sarah continues. “There’s a mix of spaces; flats, houses, studios, Georgian, Victorian – there’s a real diversity in styles across the 21 designers featured.”
