EAST AND WEST SUSSEX HAVE A HOST OF INTERESTING AND ICONIC HORTICULTURAL SIGHTS
1 Arundel Castle
Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, the Duke and Duchess of Norfolk’s award-winning Collector Earl’s Garden features imposing architectural temples, urns and water features adorned with bold plantings of palms, bamboos and tropical exotics. The castle’s gardens also include herbaceous borders, wild flowers, an organic kitchen garden, old-fashioned roses and cut flower beds.

2 Borde Hill
Celebrating its 125th anniversary this year, Borde Hill has many different gardens to explore – from the formal Italian and rose plantings to subtropical plants in the dell or the dappled shade of the woodland. Camellias, azaleas, rhododendrons, magnolias and bluebells star in spring, while the 450 plus rose collection adds a touch of summer romance.

3 Leonardslee Gardens
Due to reopen in January 2019 after entrepreneur Penny Streeter bought the 200-acre estate at Lower Beeding last year, Leonardslee House and Gardens was a popular local attraction until it closed in 2010. The gardens were famous for their displays of rhododendrons, azaleas, camellias, magnolias and bluebells. The gardens, which include a series of seven manmade ponds, two alpine glasshouses and an impressive rock garden, have been refurbished and a new restaurant and tea room opened.
