CANBERRA
Explore the best of both worlds at the National Zoo and Aquarium in Canberra. It is the only combined zoo and aquarium in the country and exhibits a wide variety of native Australian as well as exotic animals, including one of the largest collections of big cats in the country. The attraction also offers informative tours with animal keepers, behind-the-scenes tours and hand-feeding sessions. Alternatively, have your mind blown away by the impressive collection of some of Australia’s largest reptiles at the Canberra Reptile Zoo or the Australian Reptile Centre at Nicholls, located only 20 minutes away from Canberra.
NEW SOUTH WALES
One of the must-visits in New South Wales, the Taronga Zoo boasts the most spectacular location at the shores of Sydney Harbour. The Taronga Zoo exhibits more than 4000 animals in eight zoogeographic regions. With so much to explore, visitors can stay the night and also check out the ‘Roar ‘n’ Snore’ camping experience where you can enjoy close encounters with some of the zoo’s friendliest creatures at night. There are so many places to venture to for more animal encounters in New South Wales including the Wild Life Sydney in Darling Harbour, as well as the Taronga Western Plains Zoo in Dubbo which mostly houses massive, open range animals.
