Controlling The Mind

The word UPANISHAD means ‘sitting close’. Sitting close to whom? To the Master.

Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar
Controlling The Mind
Sitting how close to the Master? Not just physically, but mentally as well. Sitting mentally close to the Master, means to understand fully the words of the Master and the spirit behind such words.

Words have their own limitations. Many things cannot be expressed fully in words. In such cases, words could, at best be used to give an indication or a glimpse of the subject. Te deeper the subject, the less it can be expressed through words. If you can describe something totally in words, it would mean that the subject is not subtle but totally gross. Te deeper you go into the subtle subject, the more dificult it is to describe it and to express it.

You can experience pain but can you describe it totally in words? You can experience an emotion but it is impossible for you to describe it fully. You can experience love, but you cannot describe or express it fully. Tat is why lovers are always found in some sort of restlessness. If one wants to express a feeling but cannot fnd words to describe it totally, then he will be restless.

By sitting close to the Master, i.e. by Upanishad, you can grasp so many things which are indescribable. Where words are simply a vehicle, there flows a current of energy, of grace and of joy in the words. Tis can transform your life!
