The Anegudde Siddhi Vinayaka temple is situated in Anegudde village in Karnataka. This temple is at a distance of 9 km from Kundapur in Udupi District and at about 100 kms from Mangalore city in Karnataka. The Anegudde village is also popularly called as ‘Kumbhashi’ and Lord Ganesha is regarded as ‘Siddhi Vinayaka’ or ‘Sarva Siddhi Pradaayaka’, the One who grants and fulfills the wishes of His devotees. This temple is also one of the ‘Sapthakshetras’ (seven temples) of ‘TULUNADU’ (State of Karnataka) and is regarded as a ‘Mukti Sthala’ (place of Salvation).
The name ‘Anegudde’ is a combination of two words – ‘Aane’ (Elephant) and ‘Gudde’ (Hillock) and is the abode of the Elephant God, Siddhi Vinayaka. This place comes under a region called ‘Parashurama Srishti’ and is one of the seven places of pilgrimage in TULUNADU, created by the great Sage Parashurama.
As per the Temple Mythology, in Dwapara Yuga, thousands of years ago, the region of TULUNADU was hit by a severe drought. Then, the illustrious Sage Agastya came here in order to perform a Yagna (holy sacrifice) for the well being of the people and to please Varuna, the Rain God, for copious rains. A demon called Kumbhasura started to disrupt the Yagna, troubling all the Sages who had assembled there for the performance of this elaborate ritual of worship. The Sages prayed to Siddhi Vinayaka for help.
