Hot-headed lovers or publicity-seekers? Insiders reveal the ins and outs of AKA and Bonang’s high-profile relationship.
IT DIDN’T take long for the tweet to start trending. “Sad to announce that myself and @bonang_m have broken up. We tried guys,” he wrote. And, “Guys, don’t ever love a woman more than she loves you.”
Had it finally happened this time?
Had Mzansi’s ultimate It couple split for good? Nah, many of their fans said – they’d pulled this stuff before. AKA takes to Twitter when he’s frustrated, they said, and says things before he’s thought it through.
It seems they were right: barely 24 hours later the rapper, real name Kiernan Forbes, and the woman in question – media personality Bonang Matheba – were back on again. Some even suggested the whole business was a publicity stunt to keep the public interested and create hype around their future ventures (apparently a reality show is on its way).
AKA’s “break-up” tweets were soon removed and it was back to being all loveydovey again. He tweeted: “I love you @ bonang_m … I’m just a bit crazy & intense …. I’m sorry baby. We good.” Followed by: “Ya so what. Couples fight. Get over it. Life goes on.” Bonang then responded, somewhat cryptically, with: “It won’t be the same . . .”
The tweeps were quite harsh about it all. “Dear AKA and Bonang,” one wrote, “we’ve reached the conclusion that we don’t care.”
“Y’all are wasting our data,” another tweeted. And then there the memes . . .
