ON THE RIGHT TRACK Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra, who won a historic gold medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, has only one aim now—winning a medal at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.

India has had few track and field superstars in the years after PT Usha’s exit from the world of athletics. Enter Neeraj Chopra, who gave the country its first track-and-field gold in the javelin throw with the season’s best effort of 86.47m at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

The 20-year-old’s achievement in Gold Coast, Australia, is no small feat. His medal is only the fifth track-and-field gold for India at the prestigious sporting event (sprinter Milkha Singh being one of the other four).
