Global warming causes an outbreak of vampires in an action-packed Netflix drama

You’d think Ian Somerhalder might be sick of vampires by now, after starring in eight seasons of The Vampire Diaries as centuries-old bloodsucker Damon Salvatore.

But the 40-year-old actor is back for more fang-based adventures this week when he stars in Netflix’s new 10-part drama V Wars.

The series sees Somerhalder play Dr Luther Swann, who is drawn into a life-or-death battle after a mysterious virus begins transforming people into vampires.

As the virus spreads further and more and more people are transformed, society fractures into rival camps as normal people are terrorised by the growing number of murderous predators who feed on other humans.

When Luther’s best friend Michael (Adrian Holmes) falls victim to the disease and becomes a vampire, Luther races against time to find a way to stop what’s happening. Meanwhile, the two friends are pitted against each other when Michael rises to become the powerful leader of the vampire underground.

The cast includes Kyle Breitkopf as Luther’s son Dez and Jacky Lai as Kaylee, an online journalist who will do anything to get her big break, while Peter Outerbridge stars as Calix, a science expert on the Homeland Security team. Here, former Lost star Somerhalder reveals what’s in store…
