It’s hard not to have qualms about real-life acts of terrorism being turned into entertainment, but Australian first-time director Anthony Maras quells most misgivings with this respectful and empathetic dramatisation of the November 2008 Mumbai attacks. Be warned: his film is unimaginably tense, putting us in the shoes of the staff and guests of the city’s luxurious Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, and inviting us to ask what we would have done in their place.
