Let's get this show on the road!
When Peter Kay launched his comedy series Car Share two years ago, he never imagined such a simple premise would become a runaway success.

Set mostly in a modest Fiat 500L, the six-part sitcom followed supermarket assistant manager John Redmond (Kay) and chatty promotions rep Kayleigh Kitson (Sian Gibson) on their daily commute. It featured cleverly crafted banter, daft car games and singalongs to nostalgic tunes on the fictional Forever FM.

After scooping two Baftas and breaking iPlayer records, the comedy finally returns to BBC1 this week for a new four-part run, with the full series available to watch on iPlayer after the first episode airs.

However, as we rejoin the duo, Kayleigh has moved in with her sister and she and John are now reluctantly travelling to work separately. How long before the pair are reunited on the road?

Here, Kay, 43, and Gibson, 40, reveal why the show has gone up a gear and how their own friendship has proved a winning formula…

How does it feel to be back in the show’s red fiat?
