Mario Van Peebles heads a family of morticians and demon hunters in America’s Deep South
The steamy Deep South town of La Rochelle is the setting for Netflix’s new supernatural drama, Superstition, about a close-knit family whose ancestral duty is to protect the town, and ultimately the world, from magical forces.
For generations, the Hastings family have owned the only funeral parlour and graveyard in La Rochelle, but they also use their arcane weaponry and mystical skills to battle evil phenomena.
‘It’s a science-fiction, horror show, but with a family that hopefully you’ll enjoy and want to spend time with,’ says Mario Van Peebles, who plays patriarch Isaac. ‘I don’t know if there’s any other show like it. Someone said it’s the Obamas meets The Addams Family, which sounds about right.’
