How do you shuffle giant playing cards and what does it take to re-create a Bendy Bully? Here, Jonno Richards, MD of production company Talkback, takes TV Times behind the scenes of ITV’s celebration of game shows from yesteryear…
1 Tricks of the Yes-No round
So far, we’ve enjoyed revivals of Play Your Cards Right and The Price Is Right, with Take Your Pick! next up this week. The show’s famous opening round – where you can’t say ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to any question for 60 seconds – needed special rehearsals.
‘Alan Carr did a lot of run-throughs for all the shows but Take Your Pick! is tricky because some contestants come on with a game plan,’ says Jonno. ‘You have to come up with a system to throw them off their stride – it’s about changing the subject and dropping in something like, “Oh, your hair looks nice, did you have it done today?” Alan was good at it and had a few tricks up his sleeve for difficult contestants!’

The Play Your Cards Right pack proved a nightmare for Jonno’s team.
