CALL THE MIDWIFE
SUNDAY, 8PM, BBC1 DRAMA
Trixie Franklin has certainly been put through the mill since Call the Midwife began 11 years ago, with her struggles including a battle with alcoholism and nursing a broken heart.
But since romance blossomed between the caring midwife (played by Helen George) and dashing widower and single dad Sir Matthew Aylward (Olly Rix), fans of the BBC1 drama have rejoiced that she has finally found much-deserved happiness.
In the season-12 finale this week, excitement is mounting and the confetti is on standby as the couple prepare to tie the knot in a lavish ceremony. However, while there’s no doubt about their love for each other, not everything goes to plan!
Here, in an exclusive interview, Helen, 38, and Olly, 37, tell TV Times all about the impending nuptials…
How are Trixie and Matthew feeling in the run-up to their wedding?
HELEN There’s been a lot of build-up and pressure. The family that Trixie is marrying into has wealth and titles, so there’s an expectation of how the wedding is going to be. It’s a challenging time for both of them.
OLLY And Matthew has just inherited the title [from his late father Sir Brigham] and has gone through grief, so when he has some temper tantrums, that is about much deeper, bigger things. But Trixie is the woman who he wants to be with.
There are lots of unexpected setbacks, and a blazing row about Trixie’s tiara…
