‘I LOVE A SOFT FURNISHING!'

Alan Carr has never been afraid of branching out in new directions. As well as being an award-winning comedian and chat-show host, he’s recently taken up fronting prime-time game shows and become a regular judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race UK.

Now, as the new presenter of BBC2 contest Interior Design Masters, he’s moving into design, too – just don’t expect him to get too involved with the practical side…

‘It was a bit of a no-brainer – but I was like, “As long as you don’t want me to get very hands-on!”’ laughs Alan, 44, as he joins TV Times for an exclusive interview. ‘I’ve got a nice eye, you know I love a soft furnishing and a William Morris print, but I mean, I can’t put any wallpaper up or anything!’

The second series sees 10 aspiring interior designers competing for a life-changing contract with a top UK boutique hotel. In order to win, they have to prove their skill at decorating a range of environments, from beach huts to offices, under the critical eye of expert Michelle Ogundehin and a guest judge.

Here, Alan tells us more about his new job, including whether he would hire any of the contestants to redesign his own home!
