Bradley Walsh is nothing if not game. In the previous two series of ITV’s funfilled travelogue Breaking Dad, the plucky host of The Chase journeyed around America with son Barney and bravely allowed his boy to call all the shots about which adrenaline-fuelled activity they would sample next, from skydiving to swimming with sharks.
Now, in a third series, Bradley is joining actor and musician Barney on a trip around Europe, from the Netherlands to Italy’s Amalfi Coast. But poor Bradders won’t be in line for any rest and relaxation as Barney has an itinerary packed with more heart-stopping challenges to push his dad further out of his comfort zone.
TV Times joined the always-friendly Bradley, 60, and Barney, 23, for an exclusive video chat to find out more…
Why did you want to travel around Europe?
BARNEY: In America, we went everywhere from the cold snow of Vermont to the blazing sun of Florida, which was great. But I thought it’d be lovely to do a European trip with a country per episode. Dad wanted to end up at the Amalfi Coast because he and Mum [former dancer Donna Derby] had a lovely time there but I’d never been, so we found a route that took us there country by country. We travelled early in 2020, before lockdown, so we were lucky. It was a lovely change of dynamic, because it was culturally different everywhere we went, in terms of activities and languages. BRADLEY: It was terrific. I enjoyed America because the people we met were quite quirky. But Europe has that, too, and it’s so diverse. I’ve never been to places like Slovenia before but it’s beautiful. I think we’ve done wonders for the Slovenian tourist board!
