After a decade of making movies with Hollywood A-listers, it was always going to take a very special project to bring London-born actress Carey Mulligan back to British television.

Collateral is the first original drama series created by acclaimed screenwriter David Hare (who adapted bestsellers The Hours and The Reader into award-winning films), and while the four-part thriller might revolve around a murder investigation, Carey believes it’s far more ambitious than a standard police procedural.

Set over four days in present-day London, it follows Carey’s Detective Inspector Kip Glaspie as she arrives on the scene soon after a pizza delivery driver is shot dead.

But was this crime a random act of violence or is something more sinister at work?
