Your Complete Guide To The Capital’s Biggest Sporting Event
The eyes of the sporting world will be trained on the magnificent Yas Marina Circuit this month as the stars of Formula 1 battle it out for glory in the sparkling Abu Dhabi night. A stunning spectacle which lures tourists and motorsports fans from around the world to watch from the well-appointed grandstands, lounges or indeed yachts moored in the stunning marina, it’s surely one of the biggest events in the UAE calendar.
And yet the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix has so much more to offer than magnificent motor racing. The spectacular series of after-race concerts regularly attracts some of the biggest stars in the world of music, while the off-track entertainment offers more musicians, DJs and acrobatics. You can supercharge your F1 experience with unlimited access to all three adjacent Yas Island Parks – Yas Waterworld, Warner Bros World and, perhaps most relevantly, Ferrari World Abu Dhabi. No wonder, then, that the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix has become a bucket-list experience; for UAE residents and visitors alike.
Although it’s tempting to say the circuit is the star, it’s really an impressive backdrop for the drivers to show off their skills. And barring a huge turn-around in form, Lewis Hamilton will already have sealed his fifth Formula 1 World Title by the time his Mercedes team arrives in Abu Dhabi. Which is not to say that the 33-year-old Englishman will take things easy; it’s a track on which he’s been victorious three times in the past, winning his second World Title here on the final day in 2014.
