Despite a long journey, Canada’s postcard-perfect town of Banff is worth the hike – and it’s even sweeter when it’s the starting point for the Rocky Mountaineer, one of the world’s most scenic train journeys.

It’s my first venture into the Canadian Rockies and there’s no better way to do it than by train. Before setting off on my adventure, I take the time to check out beautiful Banff. A resort town surrounded by snow-capped trees and mountains, it’s like walking into a winter wonderland. I stroll around its cute shops and stop at Bow Falls, an incredible waterfall, before heading on to a magical chairlift journey above the clouds, peeking at the stunning Mount Norquay. It lends itself to just one of a series of “wow” moments.
