When the Duchess of Sussex failed to welcome US President Donald Trump to the palace, it was widely attributed to her known disdain of the president, as well as the fact she was on maternity leave with newborn baby son Archie.
But sources tell Woman’s Day the real reason Meghan, 37, was a noticeable no-show was the Queen banned the “difficult duchess” in a bid to ensure the event ran smoothly.
While Harry joined his family to welcome the US president to the palace, he tellingly skipped the dinner, making him and Meghan the only working royal members to not turn up.
NO COMPROMISES
“Meghan made it clear she’d attend if required but she would not be supportive of Donald Trump. That was the final straw for the Queen,” a source says. “She told Meghan under no circumstances was she to attend.”
Tensions are believed to have reached boiling point after Meghan clashed with US first lady Melania in the weeks leading up to the UK visit.
