Her aunt was the most famous woman in the world. One of her cousins is the future king of England, the other is making headlines for “abdicating” his role as a working royal.
But right now, her pedigree is likely to be the last thing on Lady Amelia Spencer’s mind. Her boyfriend of 11 years proposed recently, and celebrations and congratulations are the order of the day.
Amelia is following close on the heels of her sister Lady Kitty Spencer (29), who announced her engagement to South African businessman Michael Lewis (61) earlier this year (YOU, 23 January).
And like her big sis, Amelia has also lost her heart to a South African. He’s Greg Mallett – nephew of former Springbok rugby coach Nick Mallett and brother of Fiona Viotti, the water polo coach who was at the centre of a sex scandal at the elite Bishops Diocesan College in Cape Town last year (YOU, 31 October 2019).
Greg (30) popped the question at a boutique hotel on a wine farm near Stellenbosch in the Western Cape and broke the news of the engagement on Instagram – with pics of Amelia proudly displaying the ring on her finger.
The couple met at the University of Cape Town (UCT) 11 years ago and Greg has become such an integral part of her family that he’s been to visit Amelia’s dad, Charles, 9th Earl Spencer, at Althorp, the family estate in Northamptonshire, England, where Princess Diana is buried.
Charles (56), Diana’s brother, is clearly thrilled that wedding bells will be ringing for another of his daughters. He shared the news online, tweeting a pic of Greg and Amelia kissing.
