Winning a competition can be a rather complicated matter – as Jill found out
WE’RE going to need a bigger fridge!” Jill yelled through to Bob in the living room.
“What’s that, dear?” Bob yelled back to the kitchen.
“I said it won’t all fit in the fridge!” Jill heard footsteps plodding along the hall carpet and Bob stood next to her, looking as perplexed as she felt.
“I told you it wouldn’t fit,” he said. “I still can’t for the life of me think what you were doing entering the competition in the first place. You don’t even like cheese all that much.”
“I know,” Jill sighed. “It just seemed a good idea at the time. But now that I’ve gone and won this cheese hamper I’m not sure what to do with it.”
Jill and Bob sighed in unison. Who’d have thought that cheese, of all things, could cause this much of a problem?
As Jill pondered the issue of where to keep her prize her thoughts were interrupted by the ding-dong of the doorbell.
“I’ll get it!” she yelled at Bob, who’d left the room. She seemed to be doing a lot of yelling today. This cheese business had really wound her up.
It was her sister, June, at the door.
“Ah, just the person!” Jill said as she hugged June. “I need a bit of advice, about cheese.”
June followed Jill through to the kitchen and saw her sister’s dilemma. It was clear that all the cheese from the hamper was never going to fit into Jill’s fridge.
“I only popped in to bring this knitting pattern back,” June said. “I’m on my way to the dentist so I can’t stop. I can see you’ve got your hands full but if you can’t fit it all in there I’ll take some off you.”
And with that June was gone, leaving Jill trying to puzzle out what on earth she was going to do with the cheese mountain.
