The trend towards adopting new technology has never been stronger, with 2016 leading the year in terms of new inventions, patents, and techniques with innovations like 3D printing and new technical textiles. The year 2017 is pushing the envelope even further with Artificial Intelligence becoming the buzzword within the industry and its potential to completely revolutionise the fashion industry as we know it.

THE AI BUZZ

The global fashion industry is valued at USD three trillion dollars with e-commerce platforms fundamentally changing how people buy products. Nearly 28 percent of the global e-commerce market is based on fashion products with a value of USD 332 billion. The opening up of new markets in India, China and most of Asia, along with the rising use of network technology has added billions of new consumers in recent years. E-commerce platforms like Amazon and Alibaba have become household names with their vast reach and reliability. In addition, the proliferation of personal smartphones has made shopping easier than ever, allowing consumers to shop on the go and to make use of a host of applications to make their shopping experience more positive. In this regard, the influencing and informational capacity of technology in consumer behaviour is an area where technology can be a game-changer.
