With her brunette bob, perfectly chiselled face, and that inimitable je ne sais quoi, Alma Jodorowsky perfectly epitomises our ideal of a French girl. Many know her as the teenage star of Cannes Film Festival’s 2013 Palme d’Or winner, Blue is the Warmest Colour, while others recognise her as the lead vocalist and songwriter of Paris-based pop band, Burning Peacock. In the fashion set, her name has been associated with Chanel ever since she was personally selected by its former legendary creative director, the late Karl Lagerfeld, to be part of 2013’s The Little Black Jacket exhibition. A regular at the French brand’s front rows and red carpets, we catch up with the 28-year-old on her life as the world hits the pause button, find out her take on the current Chanel’s Paris – 31 rue Cambon line-up and discover the story behind the collection.
You’re starring in Stephan Streker’s new film L’Ennemi alongside Jérémie Rénier. What was it that attracted you to this project?
It’s a film about a political man who has a passionate love affair with a journalist, who I play, and who is accused of murder. I really liked the director’s last film A Wedding, and I found the role interesting: a woman with an elusive personality with loads of different facets, who nourishes the mystery of the plot. It allowed me to explore lots of different sides, notably playing someone older than me — it was a real woman’s role. When you’re 25, you’re in between young girls and women, it can be a little less rich. But for some time now, the characters I’ve been offered are much more interesting. And I was so happy to meet Jérémie Rénier who I didn’t know previously — working with him has been really enriching.
