As beauty research advances at a rapid pace, prepare for products, treatments and technology that completely defy what we think is possible.Vasudha rai looks into the crystal ball.
It would be stating the obvious to say that beauty technology is moving at breakneck speed. We’ve learnt how to freeze wrinkles, add volume to the face, grow healthier hair and get glowing skin in minutes. Yet, experts assure that we are only barely skimming the surface for what is to come in the areas of hair, skin and make-up. Here is just a glimpse of what you can expect in a future full of possibilities:
1 A THRIVING CLEAN-BEAUTY INDUSTRY
As a large portion of the ingredient lists on our favourite products come under the scanner, the rise of clean beauty brands is a no-brainer. It’s already a booming market in the US, where many entrepreneurs have launched products based on their own experiences. New Yorker Indie Lee launched her eponymous brand after being diagnosed with a brain tumour (the potential culprit being environmental toxins). For Valérie Gradury, founder of the natural beauty brand, Odacité, breast cancer was a wake-up call, after which she quit her job as a film producer, became a wellness coach, and created a line of clean skincare. While there are very few authorities, like the independent French agency Ecocert, certifying the credibility of these brands as of now, the good work this movement is yielding is undeniable: the ‘green’ label no longer just refers to natural or organic ingredients, but also to sustainable ingredients, no-waste innovations, profit-sharing with NGOs, fair-trade with farmers, and reduction of plastic packaging with the increased use of refillable or glass containers.
