This year’s It-Girl Sofia Richie has modelled for Madonna, hung out with Beyoncé and toured the world with her father, Lionel. Now she talks to writer Luciana Bellini about love, domesticity and her 90210 life.

There was a moment on Sofia Richie’s shoot when, suddenly, everything went silent. ‘Everyone in the room turned and I was like, “What’s happening?’” says Richie, her hazel eyes searching around the room. ‘And then I was like, “Oh, of course – it’s him.’” Her father, Lionel Richie, happened to be recording American Idol in the studio next door and had popped in to surprise his youngest daughter. ‘He always has to make a grand entrance,’ she sighs, in mock admonishment.

I meet Richie over iced tea on a sunny winter morning a few days after the photo shoot, in a crowded deli in LA’s upmarket suburb of Calabasas, where the 20-year-old model lives with her boyfriend, Scott Disick. Richie is the embodiment of young Hollywood cool; 15 years Disick’s junior, she grew up running with the young Jenners, Hadids and Baldwins, has been linked to Justin Bieber and became the face of Madonna’s Material Girl label when she was 16 – ‘I met her a few times through my dad and I’ve always loved her.’ She’s walked in shows for the likes of Dolce & Gabbana and Chanel, which she describes as one of the best moments of her life, and every year is at fashion’s apex, the Met Gala, where she’s been a guest of Stella McCartney and Topshop.
