IT'S THE TIME TO Shine!

Frizzy hair is no one’s favourite but much to everyone’s chagrin, the onset of cold weather spells dry, unruly hair. Use of scarves, woollen caps or hoodies absorb moisture and cause friction in hair which leads to breakage. dry, brittle tresses that resemble a bunch of rough coconut fibre to the touch can be irritating as the harsh weather results in dehydrated hair vulnerable to damage.

WAYS TO BATTLE HAIR TRAUMA

The severity of the season can be tackled with natural herbs, and infused oils can safeguard hair. Grandma’s recipe to combat winter hair agonies is the classic and easy hot oil treatment. Simply heat natural oils like coconut or olive oil and apply them lukewarm right from scalp down to the end of strands. Let it remain for an hour before washing it with reetha (soap nut) or a mild shampoo.

The latest on the shelf is avocado oil, though a tad pricier, remarkable for its many mop-saving properties. Apart from conserving the water content in the hair follicles, it also regulates moisture throughout the hair thereby reducing the chances of hair fall. Other interesting ingredients are rice water which contains amino acids to add lustre and volume, and honey to retain and provide moisture to the hair.

One needs to simply rummage the kitchen shelves for those good old herbs and give the much-needed TLC to the precious mane this winter.
